PORTAGE la PRAIRIE – MB
Officials confirm two more people have gone missing in Portage la Prairie last week. Harold Poitras and Cindy Riley were last seen Tuesday night in their respective homes.
Police said there was no sign of forced entry or robbery. It appeared that both people walked out of their homes and vanished. Vehicles, keys and cell phones were all left behind and neither has reached out to friends or family.
These latest cases push the number of missing Portage la Prairians to 75 in the past 5 years. Portage la Prairians born in the 1960’s continue to go missing at a rate 150 times the national rate but local authorities are reminding residents there is nothing to worry about.
“We don’t believe these are random acts and we have no evidence that points to any criminality,” Police spokesperson Peter Froman said. “Citizens should not be alarmed or be worried about these unsolved missing persons cases. We will provide information as we can.”
None of the open cases have been resolved and not one missing person has yet to return. All but one of the missing residents live in the area generally known as the “North End”. All missing people were born in the 1960’s and grew up in Portage la Prairie.
